BRINGING
THE WORLD TOGETHER
Since the creation of International Exhibitions (“Expos”) in London in 1851, these have been a technological, industrial and artistic showcase.
What was the initial objective ?
To showcase technical and artistic know-how, to unveil the great innovations that will leave a trace in the world! Each participating country steps up its ingenuity to enhance its scientific reputation and strengthen its economic reach. Some of the innovations revealed for the first time at Expos include the Eiffel Tower, the Space Needle in Seattle, the typewriter and the television!
Through time ?
The Expos evolved to embrace the promotion of progress in all its dimensions, human, environmental and economic. Founded in 1928, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is the intergovernmental organization in charge of overseeing and regulating all universal Expos, aiming to preserve the key values of education, innovation and cooperation among its 169 member states.
What’s next ?
Universal Expos offer a true crossroads for international cooperation and the collective quest for sustainable solutions to address the great challenges facing humanity. The exhibitors, countries and international organizations, meet at least every 5 years through ephemeral or permanent installations, with typical architecture.
And what about Morocco in this epic tale ? The Kingdom has participated in almost all universal Expo editions, as a committed and open stakeholder in the universal values of solidarity and sharing.

MOBILITY,
OPPORTUNITY, SUSTAINABILITY
Far from the traditional geographical clusters, Expo 2020 Dubai allocates
each participating country’s pavilion into 3 districts associated to 3 sub-themes:
Unleashing the potential of individuals and communities to shape the future
Promoting smarter and more efficient movement of people, goods and ideas, both physically and virtually
Living in harmony with the world we live in and respecting it to ensure a sustainable future for all
These 3 districts are connected by Al Wasl Plaza, whose name means “connection” in Arabic. This central monument of Expo 2020 Dubai will host grand ceremonies and celebrations during and after the 6 months of the Expo. Its impressive steel mesh dome will serve as a 360-degree immersive projection, visible from both inside and outside, for images and videos celebrating countries all over the world. . In September 2019, the 550-ton steel crown was positioned on top of the building of Al Wasl Plaza, connecting the three districts of Expo 2020 Dubai and representing a real engineering challenge!
At the end of the 6-month long Expo, 80% of the infrastructure and buildings of the 3 districts connected by Al Wasl Plaza will be preserved as part of the future city, District 2020, which will be built on the Expo 2020 Dubai site.

MOROCCO AT Expo 2020 Dubai:
COMMITTED TO THE FUTURE
“A World Expo is a place where nations can meet, exchange ideas and take action to address the global challenges of our times. Sharing innovation, promoting progress and encouraging cooperation are the major objectives that each participating country aims to achieve. At Expo 2020 Dubai, Morocco has a historical opportunity. It is in Dubai that countries will also meet to discuss the challenges of overcoming the crisis caused by the pandemic and share solutions for an economic recovery, thus providing Morocco with an opportunity to make a great contribution to this global discussion. building a sustainable future requires everyone to be connected! “

Tangible opportunities
Morocco, like other participating countries, will benefit from opportunities for collaboration and partnership that will be offered. As an “international business arena”, Expo 2020 Dubai will provide numerous platforms for a rich exchange between participating stakeholders leading to practical solutions.
BECOMING A PARTNER OF MOROCCO
Morocco boasts a number of assets that will contribute to boosting its economy and can be used to implement tangible solutions for a rapid and sustainable way out of the global crisis.
Morocco is a competitive partner
Over the past twenty years, Morocco, through its commitment to the development of South-South cooperation, has asserted itself as a major economic player on the regional stage. With the creation of state-of-the-art infrastructure, the implementation of ambitious and structuring sectoral strategies such as the development of green energies, growing industrialization, and the signing of several free trade agreements with international economic players, the Kingdom provides an enabling environment for investment. It is now one of the most competitive economies in Africa, offering favorable conditions for domestic and foreign investors.
Morocco is committed to the Planet
Morocco has chosen to develop its natural resources in a sustainable manner by adopting an environmentally friendly approach, particularly in three main areas: preservation of water resources, development of sustainable agriculture, and use of renewable energies. These are all factors that contribute to the country’s sustainable and resilient socio-economic development, with performance and efficiency driven by technological innovation.
Morocco has a wealth of talent, from here and beyond.
Morocco’s human resources, the driving force of progress, are a major asset for the country’s economic growth. Morocco’s human capital, especially its youth, and the influence of its diaspora contribute to its sustainable and inclusive development.
HOW WILL MOROCCO
SHOWCASE ITSELF IN DUBAI?
THE MOROCCO PAVILION :
A LAND OF OPPORTUNITY
Located in the heart of the “Opportunity” district, opposite the Host Country, the Morocco Pavilion is a sustainable construction, entirely made of earth.
More than just a façade…
The architecture of the Morocco Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, designed by Tarik Oualalou blends modernity and tradition with a building that combines cutting-edge construction techniques with ancestral methods of earthen construction inspired by the Moroccan villages of the South, the Ksour. At a time when the whole world is exploring new, more sustainable construction techniques, particularly those using earth, this architectural concept is a reminder that it is in Morocco that one finds the most advanced historical examples of earthen architecture, while also presenting innovative techniques.
A journey in the heart of a “vertical village”
Offering one of the tallest views of the Expo site, the Morocco Pavilion is located opposite the host country pavilion, in the heart of the “Opportunity” district.
Through a ramped pathway from the 7th floor to the first floor, around a central patio, the Pavilion and its various exhibition spaces offer visitors a unique immersive experience that is educational, interactive and emotional.
The Morocco Pavilion is designed to be permanent: after the Expo, it will remain on the « District 2020 » site created by Dubai.

Discovering the 2020 facets of Morocco:
The trajectory of the Permanent Exhibition within the Morocco Pavilion on the one hand, and the event program (artistic and cultural; economic and scientific) on the other hand, invite us to (re)discover the many legacies that Morocco has to offer for the future.
Morocco will showcase its natural and cultural heritage, its know-how and its unique talents, which have forged its identity. Visitors will meet the people of Morocco and its values, and will be amazed by the creativity of its artists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs and the vitality of its youth. Together, visitors will explore Morocco’s capacity to build, to innovate, to redefine itself, to overcome challenges, and to be part of sustainable development and peace.
“For Morocco, it will be about transmission, innovation, and know-how… Through the unique tour offered by our Pavilion and the rich cultural agenda that will be proposed throughout the six months of the Exhibition (art installations, collective works, workshops, concerts, but also thematic conferences, forums, symposiums, etc.), Morocco will unveil its legacies for the future. Some of these legacies are known and recognized, others are unsuspected and reveal new facets of our country! All of them are opportunities that will allow the next generations to push the boundaries even further in order to face the great challenges of tomorrow. “
